Player Plot: The Dream Width Awakens

On December 9th, Finn's heading an expedition into the Dream Width to see what's what. Maybe there's a way out, maybe they can block Bahamut from leaving, maybe there are more answers, or maybe it's a whole lot of nothing. Finn's bored, restless, confused about this Starlight thing, and paranoid, so he's diving into this weird and totally-not-a-bad-idea quest.

Characters are free to bring their own ships or hitch a ride with Wedge but they should keep in mind that this will take a while and could be dangerous. Finn doesn't know where the Dream Width ends, so be prepared to be gone a few days (or just seven days exactly).

Here's the lowdown:

On the 9th through 12th, characters will be encountering lots of memories, as is prone to happen in the Dream Width. These will be just like how we do them in the intro logs. As the days wear on, however, characters are going to see memories that aren't theirs.

The heroes will be able to see events from their canons that they weren't there for while deep in the Dream Width. Example: Finn could show everyone the fight between Luke and Vader in Return of the Jedi. These extra memories cannot be interacted with, only viewed from the safety of the airship, and can be from any point in time. They're only brief flashes, so feel free to leave cliffhangers or make your very own angsty montage. You can only show things from your characters' own canon (so while everyone could see the RotJ fight, I'd have to be the one to write it out).

You'll be able to post top-levels for these so that everyone in the same ship can interact. It can also be a catch-all for whatever else you're planning during this escapade. Go nuts.

On the 13th and 14th, Finn and co. are going to be attacked by monsters a la random encounters. These monsters are going to be shadowy versions of their Vaikunthan counterparts, the same but eerily not quite. Anyone who dies during this portion of the event will awaken back at the Curti Center, no permadeaths allowed. And, yes, Geomancers will still be able to work their magic.

For this portion, we're going to be divided into groups. If you already know who you want to get paired up with, there's going to be an option for that. Please remember that everyone might be on separate ships at the players' discretion. Considering the amount of people who sign up, I'm thinking 3-6 characters per group with no cap on the number of groups.

You also have the option of running the fights by yourselves for faster tagging during the holiday season. If you want some surprise monster action, there'll also be an option for me to interfere with a curveball or two. Consider me the Hard Mode difficulty, though. I like to have fun and my dice rolls are historically terrible.

On the 15th, everyone will be suddenly plunged into darkness then pitched into a memory via a thread run by the mods. Full disclosure, I have no idea what'll happen. Very excited.

Would things a character has directly experienced but has been retconned out of existence (and their memory) manifest as noninteractive memories?

That's an interesting question.

I think I'm going to go with yes. I don't know anything about Undertale, but I'm very familiar with canon getting retconned. So long as the event happened in their medium in some sort of branching timeline or whatever, then I say go for it.

If something changes, I'll let you know well before the plot starts.

I had a similar question as Melodies of Life had two alternate timeline dream events (one of which was a beautiful fight thread between me and the Sephiroth player, though I don't think I'll be using that one).

I may not use those events but I just wanted to check.

Yeah, go for it. I'd make sure all parties are agreeable first, just in case.

(Sorry for the earlier not-edit edit, but anyway!) I wanted to put a quick clarification. Characters that are CRAUs, including from MoL, probably shouldn't see things that they weren't directly a part of. So long as the memory you're planning was one you were in and the other players are cool with it, I don't see why not. If it's something the character wasn't a part of, I might have to get mod-input on that one but I'm sure we can work it out (that includes anyone else curious about this same question, you lurkers).

For the memory logs, could the different memories be from different versions of the same character? Could Corrin start seeing memories of her Birthright and/or Revelations selves? Or does it have to be different memories from within the same timeline (as per the Finn example above)?
