Once Upon A Dream: Event OOC Post
![]() On May 24th, something unexpected will happen: more lost people are found within the Dream Width! Well, not quite exactly found yet, someone's gotta go fetch them. But if it's anything like last time, Biggs and Wedge quite simply cannot handle it on their own... And that's where your characters come in: they cannot pilot airships on their own yet, but they can board airships piloted by NPCs and handle the retrieval of new arrivals. This is what the offer from the Curti Center will be! Seeing how short-staffed the center is and seeing how your characters have experience with the Dream Width, that's the best way to go about it. It's also a chance for them to learn more about the Dream Width. Alas, things are never that easy... And with such little time to prepare for the rescue mission, the Dream Width's pull will cause characters at random to lose themselves. This post is going to detail the inner workings of this event. Please, ask any questions you may have here! Additionally, feel free to create your own threads in this post for plotting purposes. ![]() The Dream Width will cause all characters to get lost. For some of them, they will find themselves in one of their memories, unaware of their status and convinced they are actually living reality. While living a memory, characters will look like they did at the time of the memory. Their appearance will switch back to normal once they’re snapped out of it, like an illusion dissolving away. Others (whether they were rescued from a memory or have yet to get lost in a memory) will get into the memories of their friends and try to snap them out of it. But that means they may see things your characters would rather have kept secret... ICly, characters will be notified about the signals found in the Dream Width on May 24th, and will board the Airships on May 31st. However, due to the plot heavy nature of this event, the IC Log will be posted on May 20th, so you can start playing memories early and be ready for new arrivals on June 05th. • Getting Lost in a Memory Turbulences will hit the airships navigating the Dream Width and all characters will get lost. When it happens, certain characters will forget everything and become lost in their memory. Other characters may simply get thrown into someone else’s memory and still remember everything. It is their duty to snap the lost characters out of it. If they fail to snap their friend out of their memory, they will either get lost in their own memory or thrown into someone else’s memory. As such, you don’t have to have your character get lost in a memory right from the get go. • Airships Characters will board Airships in groups of 4 to 8 characters. You are free to make your own groups, there will be a toplevel dedicated to Airship interactions where you can create a sub-thread for your own group. If you’d rather have your group be randomized, please say so in the sign-up form! Being together in an airship, all characters will get lost at once if their Airship is pulled. If not, they will be safe together and head out to a nebula. Regardless, they will be split up once they reach nebulas. As such, it doesn’t matter what group you are in initially, you will be able to get into any memories however you like. • Memory Outsiders You can visit someone on your lonesome, or as a group. Please plan OOCly however you prefer to do it. • Native OCs Native OCs have the possibility of living through either a memory of their life on Vaikuntha or a memory of their previous life. Should it be the latter, this memory and the context surrounding it will be regained. While lost in the memory, they will look and behave like their original self and have no recollection of their current self until they’re snapped out of it. When this happens, their appearance and memories will go back to normal, though they’ll remember with clarity the entire memory as well as any contextual information tied to it. • Snapping Someone Out of a Memory When seen by outsiders, memories are being perceived as nebulas in the Dream Width. Going into one of those Nebula, characters will automatically disappear from the airship and appear inside the memory. Once the lost character is snapped out of it, the Airship will reappear nearby and the memory will start fading. Seeing how memories fade once someone is snapped out of it, they have to get in the airship ASAP. If they don’t get back in, they’ll be exposed to Outer Space conditions and die for two weeks before reappearing in a memory of their own (and that’s how Hiatuses work!). • Failing to Snap Someone Out of a Memory If a character tries to snap another from their memory and fails, one of three things may happen: 1. The character will get lost in a memory of their own. Of course, that has huge implications, and explains how from a few lost characters, nearly everyone may end up getting lost in memories. 2. If your character already got lost in a memory of their own or a plot memory, they will be thrown into someone else’s memory. 3. If your character didn’t get lost in a memory of their own but will have no memory of their own as per your own choice, they will be thrown into a Plot Memory. ![]() Each character is allowed to have one memory. Players are expected to craft and ‘mod’ the memories of their characters. It is possible to ask the help of other players, even if they are not a part of Melodies of Eternity. For example, should Cloud Strife’s memory be about his attack on the Shinra Building, the player is allowed to ask Barret and Tifa players to participate in the memory to flesh it out. However, the task to mod the memory and describe how it all goes still falls upon Cloud Strife’s player. If Barret was a character app’d in Melodies of Eternity, then he would still be considered an outsider and there would be two of him in the memory should he visit it: the Memory Barret and the Player Barret. The NPCs within the memory will not react to outsiders at first, but as the outsiders interact with the dreaming character and begin to draw them out of the memory, they may begin to respond to the outsiders' presence. If and how the NPCs interact with the outsiders will be up to the moderating player's discretion. • Powers Characters will no longer have access to their Jobs while in a memory. Instead, they will have access to what powers are available in the setting they’re visiting. That means lost characters and their castmates will regain their real powers while in a memory about their setting. Other characters will get this memory’s equivalent. For example, should Cloud Strife visit a memory set in the Harry Potter world, he would no longer have access to any of his native skills or Jobs, but he would have access to the wizarding world’s magic instead. However, should Cloud Strife visit a memory set on a Normal Earth where magic and powers do not exist, then he would be depowered altogether and have access to no skills or powers whatsoever. ![]() There are three special memories that can be visited. There is no one to “snap out” of these memories, as such these memories will be fully modded and will work differently from other memories. They are as follow: - A Dream - A Nightmare - A Premonition These memories can only be visited by characters who do not have a memory of their own. Experiencing these memories during this event is not absolutely crucial in uncovering the overall story, though it may provide some insight into the overarching. As such, should you want to play a memory for your character, you won't miss on anything crucial by not taking part in a plot memory. We will reply to the sign-up form to tell you which memory your character is assigned to. Plot Memories will be posted on the 25th. ![]() Please reply to the sign-up thread. The Sign-Ups remain open until the event ends, that is to say on the 5th of June! So even if the event is started, you can jump in anytime. However, you will be eligible for a plot memory only if you sign up prior to the 25th. Should you sign-up after that, even if your character has no memory of their own, they will not be thrown into a Plot Memory. Signing up and participating in the event will grant your character 100 exp. You have to sign-up and actively participate in the event before June 05th, 23:59 GMT to be eligible for the 100 exp. ![]() Starting from June, you will be able to play memories this way at your Leisure. Characters on Vaikuntha may get lost in the Dream Width at any point in time for two weeks, before they’re located by the Curti Center. In the case of a mere Hiatus, Biggs and Wedge will handle the rescues. But if you want to play it out and have other player characters rescue yours, then feel free to! As more characters get their own airships and equip them for Dream Width travels, it’ll get easier to do it without requiring help from the Curti Center. Furthermore, all new arrivals will be lost in their memory as well upon arriving. Whilst they may be rescued by Biggs and Wedge, they may also opt to have it be a prompt in their intro post, and you may reply to them should your character be part of the rescue team. |
